What is a Back Bra Lift?

A back bra lift, also known as an upper back lift or bra lift, is a procedure that removes the excess skin and fat from the upper back. It is called a bra lift as the incisions and scars are typically located under and covered by the bra line.

This procedure can also reduce excess skin around the sides of the body, including the armpits and lower back. As a result, the contour of the skin on the upper part of the back is improved.

This procedure is performed under a general anaesthesia in an accredited hospital facility by a qualified Specialist Plastic Surgeon.

How is a Back Bra Lift Procedure Performed?

A back bra lift typically takes between one to two hours to complete and is performed under general anaesthesia. The first step to this procedure is to mark where the incision will be made. Typically, you will be marked whilst wearing your bra, to ensure that the incision is concealed.

During the procedure, liposuction will be performed on the upper and middle portion of the back. Next, incisions will be made and excess sagging skin and tissues are removed. The skin is then pulled tight and sutured up.

Who is a Candidate for a Back Bra Lift?

This procedure could be considered if you have cosmetic and/or functional concerns caused by bulging around your upper back region.

While this procedure is not only for women, men typically do not develop sagging skin or back fat rolls at the same rate as women do. Additionally, women do have the advantage of being able to hide the surgical scar under the bra line.

The ideal candidate for back bra lift surgery is someone who:

  • Has sagging skin on the upper and middle back caused by massive weight loss, ageing or sun exposure
  • Experiences chafing and/or rashes due to loose skin
  • Has been at a stable weight for over a year
  • Has realistic expectations regarding what the procedure can achieve
