About Dr Alys Saylor
"I have always considered it an honour and a privilege to have the skill to be able to offer potentially life changing surgery to my patients.”
Dr. Saylor has obtained a formidable reputation since she first began practicing in Brisbane a decade ago, after completing her plastic surgery training in Melbourne and Brisbane. She has extensive expertise in both aesthetic (cosmetic) and reconstructive surgery and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and an accredited member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS).
Dr. Saylor has been described by her patients as firm but compassionate, intensely professional yet equally as supportive and always careful to realistically shape her patient’s expectations.
Dr. Saylor is very passionate about two particular aspects when it comes to her career; that her patients benefit most fully from the life changing results that reconstructive surgery may create – and ensuring the next generation of surgeons are trained and mentored to an exceptional level.
She has been an active teacher and advocate for surgical trainees over the years, having served as an interviewer of applicants and subsequently a supervisor to the Mater Hospital’s plastic surgery training program. Dr. Saylor also maintains a public appointment at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) and is avid to continue her involvement in the education of both her peers and trainees.
“The Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons’ motto of Corpore Mens Melior Refecto is a perfect and very appropriate correlation to my desire to create the ideal outcome for every patient I treat. The motto – translated from Latin – means ‘The mind is better when the body has been restored,’ or ‘The spirit improves as the flesh is restored.”
Dr. Saylor feels fortunate to have always truly enjoyed all aspects of her profession and is consistently looking to enhance her own skills, having recently embarked on specialised training in medico-legal reporting.
Displaying a true dedication and flare for her chosen career, Dr. Saylor cites one of her many favourite Oscar Wilde quotes:
“Technique is really personality. That is the reason why the artist cannot teach it, why the pupil cannot learn it, and why the aesthetic critic can understand it.”

FAQs - Fees & Costs:
You will typically have two (2) consultations with your surgeon prior to any cosmetic surgery. Your first consult will take approximately 30-60 minutes depending on the procedure you are interested in and will cost $275. If you have a Medicare card you may be eligible for a rebate, more if you have a valid referral letter from you GP or Specialist. All consult fees are payable in full on the day of your consultation or prior to your consult for telehealth appointments.
Your second consultation is an opportunity to ask your surgeon any additional questions you may have pertaining to your upcoming surgery. This appointment will be shorter than your initial appointment and is free of charge.
The clinical nurse team and client support officers are available via phone and email can assist with any questions you may have in relation to fees, hospitals, garments, and the logistics of your procedure.
You will be required to attend an initial consultation with Dr Saylor for any skin lesion/s concerns. The fee for this consult will be between $175-210. These appointments will be for 15-30 minutes.
If you have a Medicare card you may be eligible for a rebate, more if you have a valid referral letter from you GP or Specialist.
Once you have met with Dr Saylor and discussed the surgical options available to you, one of our VPS client support officers will provide you with a detailed fee estimate that will include your surgeon’s fees and any out-of-pocket costs (also known as “a gap”) you may incur.
Your out-of-pocket costs are the difference between your surgeon’s fee and the rebate you receive from Medicare and your private health insurance if applicable. Your quote will also include estimates of other fees that will apply for your surgery including hospital, anaesthetist, pathology, prosthesis or implant costs as required. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have sourced quotes directly from these additional suppliers.
Please understand that our client support officers are available to go through any details and answer questions pertaining to the costs of a surgery and we will be clear and transparent in all our communication with you with regards to costs. There is no obligation for you to book surgery after your first consult and you can take away all the information we provide to you whist you consider your options to proceed.
NB: Estimates are valid to 6 months from the date of issue during which time a surgical booking can be made for within 12 months of the date of the estimate.
If you are uninsured you will be provided with an estimate of fees for your chosen hospital. You will also be given the contact details for your anaesthetist.
A 7 day cooling off period applies for all adults who are consenting to a major cosmetic surgical procedure. You will not be required to pay for your surgery at the time of your appointment, but a deposit may be required to secure a surgery date.
If you are having a procedure in a hospital, your surgeon’s fee is due no later than two weeks prior to your surgery date. Following your surgery you will receive an itemised receipt to claim any benefits back, if applicable.
As a general rule, plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons is not covered by private health insurance funds or Medicare.
Some operations, that have a significant functional aspect, may be considered medical rather than cosmetic and, as such, may attract a small rebate.
Some operations, that have a significant functional aspect, may be considered medical rather than cosmetic and, as such, may attract a small rebate.
